Baltimore County Public Schools Heat Wave Early Release

Baltimore County Public Schools Heat Wave Early Release – Kids in Baltimore had a shortened school day today on account of the heat. Public officials have said that the decision was made in the best interests of the kids, and also because many of the schools do not have air conditioning. The region was expected to have a high of 93 degrees today.

Without the proper cooling system, the conditions inside the school were sweltering. After school activities will be determined case by case by those that run the programs. Most activities that are exercise intensive are expected to be canceled.

There are 173 schools in Baltimore County. As many as 60 schools have no form of air conditioning, which causes major problems for students when the temperature is as hot as it is. Citing safety concerns for students and staff, officials decided that it was best to cut the school day short on account of the heat.
Unfortunately, the early dismissal caused a number of problems for the school district.

With all of the schools releasing at nearly the same time, the district was left to find ways to quickly transport 700,000 students home on only 800 available buses.
Surely the announcement was good news to the students, but it likely created a headache for the staff members of the schools who had to deal with the transportation problems that arose because of the early release.
