Virtual Counseling is offered by Counseling Assistants of the College of Letters and Science. Typically, these individuals are graduate students who are looking to help advise undergraduates with questions that can range between a number of different topics including deadlines, planning, and preparing for graduate school.
These students have been trained to advise you with the best possible information. They have been through the program before, and know how hard it can be to make some of the decisions that you must make on your way through college.
The Virtual Counseling (http://my.ucla.edu/vcfaq.htm) service is currently available to students of UCLA, and is looking to expand in the coming months.
Many of the questions that they help students with pertain to scheduling. Many students do not know the best order to take their classes in, or even how to schedule their time for themselves so that they are able to manage their lives as best as possible.
The counselors can help you learn how to add extra units to your study list, know when to drop an impacted course, and know where to find a listing of courses that satisfy a GE requirement.
They also make themselves available to answer general questions regarding school and policy, along with minor requirements. As of now, there are not enough counselors for each to specialize in a specific field, but that is a feature that they are hoping to expand upon in the near future.
VC’s can be a great way to receive advice from the comfort of your own home without having to schedule an appointment with a counselor at your university.
