The MTV reality show “Teen Mom” and “16 and Pregnant” are having a difficult time finding new cast members to feature. However, it seems that this may not be a problem for too much longer, as it is rumored that many teenage girls are contemplating getting pregnant in order to be featured on the shows.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to come as much of a surprise for many people who feel that American culture is beginning to go down the drain.
Matt Titus, an author for TheLoveConsultants.com, said, “This is yet another example of the desperation of fame. The sad state of reality television has created a lowbrow vehicle for untainted train wreck personalities to display their private lives. Getting pregnant to be famous is like eating as many cockroaches as possible in a one minute period.”
Rabbi Shmuely Boteach is a friend of the late Michael Jackson, and he issued a statement about the occurrences, saying, “This is out of control celebrity culture. Reality TV first began by exploiting people’s problems, assuming they would do anything for fame.
The idea of teenage girls getting pregnant to be on television shows that reality TV is going a step beyond exploiting problems. It is now creating the problems.”

It seems like that once upon a time not so long ago that the topic of pregnancy (let alone TEEN PREGNANCY) was something that you just didn’t talk about in front of the world. In fact until after the Victorian Era if you were pregnant you weren’t even supposed to be out in public or socializing with anybody. Yes, times have changed, but has it gotten this bad? I mean seriously. Have a little bit of decency to keep SOME things in your life private. I’m sure the topic of teen pregnancy needs to be addressed, but in my opinion this is the wrong way to go about it.
There used to be fictional families (think ‘The Brady Bunch’) that starred in the prime time slots. Then again MTV used to actually be devoted to music videos and that was it.
And not only are these teenage girls already mothers, but they have tattoos, I saw one episode that the girls went out to go partying. What kind of role models are these reality show stars?
