Rutgers Student Death – Did Tyler Clementi VIDEO Lead To Suicide – Tyler Clementi, an 18-year-old freshman, was a gifted violinist, a quiet young man who kept things to himself. Sadly and tragically, his life was cut short. Clementi’s roommate, freshman Dharun Ravi, and another student, Molly Wei recorded a private moment between Clementi and another man, uploaded the video to the internet, sharing the intimate and private life of Clementi.
In great distress at this becoming knowledge to the world, Clementi took his own life, jumping off the George Washington bridge into the Hudson River.
Before Clementi’ suicide, he left a message on the gay community message board two days after finding the video online.
“He … saw me making out with a guy,” the message reads. “The school (probably) won’t do much of anything.”
Clementi attempted to speak to an adviser at his college, however what was actually done about this is unknown.
Ravi, his room mate, tweeted “Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.”
Both Ravi and Wei were arrested, and charged with invasion of privacy. Both are now out on bail.
In his final tweet, Clementi said “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.”

Of course it did, people make me sick. This poor guy is dead because he hooked up with a guy. There is no excuse, personally it makes me so angry!
It is clear that the actions of Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are the reason for Tyle Clementi’s suicide. Since Tyler went to the Rutgers RA and no action was taken, then Rutgers is at fault. Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei should go to prision for their actions. I hope Tyler Clementi’s family seek justice (or revenge) for what has happened to their son. My heart goes out to the family of Tyler Clementi.
It is so unfortunate that we are raising such uncompassionate children. Hopefully they will find remorse in what they did.

Yes, the video was the cause of this young man’s suicide. These two young adults should be prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law and expelled from school. They had no right to do what they did. No amount of remorse can bring him back.
I agree. People’s personal life should never be subject to this kind of invasion of privacy. He was completely humiliated. There should be stricter laws to prevent people from doing this…
If this kid wanted to keep it a secret, the other kid shouldn’t have posted that video, that’s just so ignorant!!!
Free will. The 2 students should get maximum penalty for invasion of privacy but not manslaughter or murder or any of that. That’s called free will. Granted, the kid wa under duress, but it’s speculative, and people should be held accountable for their actions, including the kid who committed suiide and the 2 kids who invaded his privacy.
Just sad… I hope the legal system does their job and make the responsible parties pay for this insensitive act.

It is always someone’s own decision to take their life. His roommates actions definitely caused him to become suicidal, it seems. However, he took his own life…he is solely responsible for that decision..no matter how tragic the circumstances.
