Vyvanse Helps Teens With ADHD

Vyvanse effective for teens with ADHD

A new drug has proven to be effective for teens with ADHD, according to recent reports. The drug Vyvanse, which is a stimulant, is said to help with the disorder in adolescents beginning as early as the first week of treatment.

This is a marked improvement over other medications, which may take up to a few weeks to become effective for the individuals.”Vyvanse improved symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsively, compared to placebo,” one doctor said of the drug.

The drug was approved in the US for treatment of the disorder in individuals ranging between the ages of 6 and 12. The drug was also approved for use in older individuals who may suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

When the recent study was conducted, a noticeable difference between the individuals using the drug and the individuals using a placebo was noticed quickly, reportedly within the first week of trials.

The side effects remained consistent with other drugs that are currently on the market. These effects can include a decrease in appetite for the user, headache, insomnia, weight loss and irritability, especially when the effects of the drug begin to wear off.

The drug may also increase the pulse, and blood pressure of the user. The drug also is abusable.

Teenagers are known for abusing ADHD drugs while experimenting. Vyvanse does not allow for abuse because the drug is only effective after it has been swallowed. Addition tests are being run for adults and teens in age brackets older than the currently approved bracket to test for effectiveness.
