Gain Parental Trust As A Teen

Without trust, there is no relationship in place. So with that in mind, if you have lost your parents trust, it is only natural that you want to get it back as soon as possible. Remember with trust comes freedom and that is what every teenager wants to achieve with their parents.

#1 Stop eye balling!

Rolling your eyes is probably an instant reaction when something does not seem to go your way. The reality is this is only likely to enrage your parents more. Like a referee in a football match – simply accept their decision as one that is final and they will learn to give you trust and respect.

#2 Keeping them informed

Keeping your parents informed of your whereabouts is essential. By letting them know where you are and what time you are likely to be home is not only likely to gain their trust, but it will also help them relax when you are out and stop worrying that you are safe.

#3 Keeping calm

A lot of trust is down to discipline. So this should mean that if your parents believe you are listening to them and paying attention to what they say, then they will give you more and more trust as time goes by. If you disagree with them, try and reason them, but avoid heated arguments and shouting at them as this is not likely to help you at all.

#4 Do as they say

If they ask you to do a job or your homework, do it! As mentioned before, the more respect that you give your parents, the more they are likely to give you. Remember that trust is something that is likely to build over time, the more things you do that are positive, the more trust that you will get – it is a slow and steady process.
