Teen Swearing And Parents

Dr. Francis Compton is a Psychology professor who has completed many studies based on social behavior. Among his famous studies, he has looked at why teenagers swear so much and the ways it can be prevented.

Around 87% of people aged from 12-19 swear on a regular basis. A study back in 2000 showed how 855 participants used words to make themselves feel older or more mature.

So what really needs to happen? Well it is quite obvious that swearing needs to be stinted at an early age. Even as toddlers, children need to realize that it is not acceptable in society.

In reality, a lot of so called swear words are not cool or mature. Take the word “b*tch” for instance. Most people will consistently use this word throughout their week, but they probably do not know by calling someone a b*tch they are referring to them as a female dog. Are you cool enough to call someone a female dog?

A lot of children do copy the adults they aspire to, usually their parents. If swearing is part of the household, then the reality is that children will have picked it up from here. Luckily, by working hard the cycle of swearing can be broken in less than a week, if you can correct your child every time they mention a bad word.

The law of attraction the things you do, say and think is likely to lead to creating feelings. If you use foul language and think negatively, then this is the type of person you will become. Think positively, forget swearing and have a much more optimistic look on life.

It might seem that everyone swears but ask your child to list who they know that does not. There are a lot of figures of society that get their point across without swearing, who are probably a lot cooler than half the people they know that swear. Everyone does not swear – so they do not need to!
